Vivid Sydney

Vivid Sydney is an annual festival of light, music and ideas and features an amazing light show projected onto the Opera House called “Lighting the Sails”. The Vivid Sydney festival is usually on around May/June, and even though I don’t live in Sydney I’ve been lucky enough to experience it a couple of times.

As a photographer, the main attraction for me is all the light installations throughout the city, lighting up many popular buildings and areas. But Vivid Sydney is about more than just the light shows. Vivid Sydney also includes performances from local and international musicians at “Vivid LIVE” as well as an ideas exchange featuring public talks and debates from leading global creative thinkers.

In 2013 the festival featured the longest ever Light Walk along the city’s foreshore, lighting up The Rock and Circular Quay, with more installations from Walsh Bay right through to Campbell’s Cove. The Light Walk is highlighted by beacons to the east and west, at Fort Denison and Sydney Ports Tower.

The 2013 music line-up sounded AMAZING! There were performances from Kraftwerk (yes, the one and only German pioneers of electronic music), Empire of the Sun, Bobby Womack, Karl Hyde, Grammy Award-winning Bon Iver front man Justin Vernon and the Heritage Orchestra performed the original score from the Blade Runner movie!
